How Zoo visitors are saying goodbye
For over 50 years, the giant pandas at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation and Biology Institute have delighted and inspired visitors from across the globe. Now, we're preparing to say goodbye.
In September 2023, we invited members of the public to share their favorite moments with Tian Tian, Mei Xiang, Xiao Qi Ji and the rest of the pandas that have called Washington D.C., home. Hundreds of online visitors responded with warm, funny, thought-provoking and bittersweet memories of these beloved bears. Here are a few of their stories:
