Zoo Visitation Update

Beginning today, June 30, the Smithsonian has approved an increase in the amount of visitors the Smithsonian’s National Zoo can admit daily, and an increase in our building capacities. It’s great news for us because we can provide a much better guest experience. We’re making incremental adjustments while focusing on exhibit lines, crowd flow, safety and overall experience. Our capacity is now set at 10,000 visitors per day. However, we know it is unlikely we will actually have that many people in the Zoo due to attrition and extreme weather. Our Speedwell Foundation Conservation Carousel and Me and The Bee playground attractions have opened as well.

Today, the Smithsonian announced that the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, will reopen to the public on Friday, July 24. All other Smithsonian museums will remain temporarily closed to the public.
