Andean Bear Cub Update: First Steps, One Paw at a Time

This update was written by animal keeper Sara Colandrea.
Andean bear Brienne sits in her den with her two cubs. Brienne is leaning over to clean one cub by her back leg. The other cub stands in front and right of her, taking a wobbly step. The den's floor is covered in hay. This photo is in black and white.

Watch out fans! Our 2-month-old Andean bear cubs are on the move.

Over the last week, Brienne’s cubs have become mobile! They are still pretty wobbly as they learn how to properly put one paw in front of the other. But it’s exciting to see them take a few steps here and there.

Lucky viewers of the Andean Bear Cub Cam may catch each cub taking steps. Check out this clip from last week, which was the first steps I saw!

Keep an extra close eye on the Cam to see the cubs continue to practice walking!

Watch beary cute moments from the Cam and keep up with keeper updates on the cubs here.
